Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts to become famous in the mainstream failed. The singer has been signed by 2 different record companies, but dropped before she released any music. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007 and it garnered little attention for its jolly flippant song. "I Kissed" a Girl was a more aggressive ode to sexism, accompanied by a hard edged electro-pop rhythm. It quickly sparked controversy as some critics derided the song for encouraging sexual relations between gays and lesbians as well as others argued that the sexually explicit scene it depicted catered to men's fantasies about sexuality among females. I Kissed a Girl's combination of titillation, polished melody and a catchy chorus helped it become a top-ten hit in a variety of countries. It led to an album called The One of the Boys (2007) being a big success. Hot N Cold was a hit in America, and the album's second single Hot N Cold with its sharp tongued bouncy beat also gained popularity.
